Come the summer, Mikel Arteta & Arsenal have some huge decisions to make and one of them is Alexandre Lacazette.
Alex Lacazette’s contract is up in the summer of 2022, and soon to be thirty striker isn’t getting any younger. Considering this will be his last big-money contract at the top level, the wage demands are expected to be colossal.
Lacazette has been performing at his elite recently, notching braces against Sheffield United in the Premier League followed by Slavia Prague in Europe – but it’s not his goal-scoring abilities that are the highlight of his season. Alex has been in heart of creativity coming in with his back to the goal much like Olivier Giroud used to, and his chemistry with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile-Smith Rowe has enlightened us with some orthodox Arsenal goals which not only Arsenal fans but also somewhere in France Arsene Wenger is raising his toast to.
The Frenchman has shown the passion, fight, and determination when the whole squad has collectively failed to and it’s probably time to show him the same confidence by offering him a contract extension – especially when we are paying Aubameyang his enormous wages and signing Willian only to bring him closer to his restaurant than us to better quality.
Alexandre Lacazette has been handed the captain arm-band in the recent absence of Aubameyang and demotion of Hector Bellerin, and someone with arm-band has to go with the values of the club on and off the pitch – Laca certainly seems to be doing so in his works with the youngsters. There have been times when Hale End graduates are told to pick someone who has been talking, motivating, and working with them and ‘Lacazette’ has been the first name out of their mouth.
Florain Balogun is extending, with us buying a winger in summer – Aubameyang will shift to a central role, and probably Eddie Nketiah will leave either on permanent or on loan. Rather than spending big bucks to sign someone, we could put out trust in Lacazette. Yes, he has made some mistakes and has been sloppy at times BUT so has Aubameyang, David Luiz, and Willian. Lacazette loves the club and would definitely give his all for the badge. A contract extension is the least we could do.
