Do Arsenal really need Steven N’Zonzi?

After impressive performances in last couple of seasons with Sevilla, Steven N’Zonzi is reportedly looking to leave the Spanish side. The newspapers in Spain started linking the French-man to Arsenal on back of their need for defensive midfielder and the fact that they have Unai Emery at their service.

Unai Emery and Steven N’Zonzi have worked together when Emery used to manage Sevilla. In a recent interview, Emery clearly denied the speculation that Arsenal are looking to bring in Steven. Yet papers and rumors never stop, do they? But the real question here is, Do Arsenal really need N’Zonzi?

Comparisons with Vieira maybe why people are highly linking him with the Gunners. Yes, Arsenal did need someone who could control the game from deep in midfield but they do have Lucas Torreira now. The fight between Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Mohamed Elneny, Matteo Guendouzi and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, is not enough that media are linking another defensive midfielder to Arsenal.

Granit Xhaka is expected to take up some free role next season, where his basic objective would not only be to sit back and defend but also to go ahead and become a nightmare.

Torreira has shown promising signs last season and with Uruguay in the World Cup, I really believe Lucas Torreira is the N’Golo Kante Arsenal were looking for since years. He is someone who can control the game, someone who is not afraid to get his body in the middle, someone who can make the difference. Yes experience wise Lucas maybe behind Steven, but talent wise he seems far ahead.

I won’t deny Steven N’Zonzi is a good player, but he is someone who exceeds Arsenal’s demand.
