Arsenal ace Danny Welbeck is knocking on the door to start for Arsenal.

The Englishman has not been a first choice from the day he signed for Arsenal from Manchester United on the Deadline day back in 2014. With years he has been demoted in preferences due to his injury scares as well as Arsenal already having a reliable striker scoring at regular basis.

Olivier Giroud was keeping Danny Welbeck on the bench but with time the arrival of Lucas Perez, Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Danny has endured a tough path to make his presence felt.

He sure is doing it now, and ‘What a perfect time he has come up with to do that’, into last year of his contract with Arsenal and those goals he is scoring – would certainly give Arsenal some thought before letting him go.

Arsenal have been involved in some contract sagas over the years with Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil contracts last season and they find themselves fighting for another of their superstar Aaron Ramsey this year.

Arsenal did succeed in keeping Mesut Ozil with them, though Alexis Sanchez was dumped to Manchester United for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jack Wilshere joined West Ham United on free transfer.

There have been reports claiming Arsenal took Ramsey’s contract offer off the table and Unai Emery is targeting Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski to replace him.

Danny Welbeck is another contract saga they have to close down and Arsenal legend Ian Wright thinks it’s essential for Unai Emery and Arsenal to keep hold of England’s back-up number nine.

Welbeck may be a back-up to Aubameyang and Lacazette, but he sure does provide Arsenal some essential goals in all situations against all kind of opponents.

When asked Ian Wright ‘if Welbeck deserves a new deal’, Wright explained:

“Yes, I certainly do, Where he is right now, behind Lacazette and Aubameyang, coming off the bench with his experience.

“And the fact that he is capable of scoring goals against all types of opposition. He’s someone that I think Arsenal should definitely try to sign up for the long term. He’s valuable to Arsenal.

“I think he’s got eight to 10 goals in him over the course of a season. In the current climate, I don’t think Arsenal can afford to let someone like that go.”
