When Wenger was quizzed whether Bayern is a job that interests him, he replied: “Of course.

“Coaching is what was my whole life until now. Everybody who has coached will tell you the same. You miss the intensity but some things you miss a lot, some things you don’t miss. I enjoy the things I don’t miss too much…

“But on the other hand, football games, winning football games, preparing the team for the game, and getting satisfaction and shared emotions. That is something that you miss.

“So of course, yes. I was responsible from 33 years of age and I coached until 69 without interuption. And at a top level.

“It’s 36 years without stopping. Even if I miss it, to get out of that pressure for a year was not too bad for me. People who know me well say I’m more relaxed – and it’s true.”

Bayern Munich parted with Niko Kovac after his eighteen months tenure after they stand forth in Bundesliga having lost 5-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Kovac who took Bayern over from Jupp Heynckes in July 2018 parted with German side was by mutual agreement.

A statement on the club website said, “The performances of our team in recent weeks and the results have shown us that there was a need for action. Uli Hoeneß, Hasan Salihamidzic and I had an open and serious discussion with Niko this Sunday based on that and came to the mutual decision that Niko is no longer head coach of FC Bayern. We all regret this development. I would like to thank Niko Kovac on behalf of FC Bayern for his work, particularly for last season’s double win.”

Kovac, a former Bayern midfielder, led the side to the league and cup double in May, becoming the first man to achieve the feat as a player and manager.

Arsenal target Jose Mourinho is also one of the favorites to take charge at the Allianz Arena.
