Arsenal acquired the services of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen for £22million, as Unai Emery continues to rejuvenate his Arsenal’s defence.

Leno became Arsenal’s second signing of the summer following the capture of Stephan Lichtensteiner from Juventus on a free summer deal.

The presence of Leno means its an end to either of Petr Cech or David Ospina’s time at Arsenal. The departure of David Ospina seems likely with the former acquiring the No. 1 jersey this summer and rejected approach from the likes of Napoli to fight for his place at Arsenal.

Goalkeeping Stats – 2017/18

Despite the fact that Bernd is an established goalkeeper and has a reputation for his superb antiques between the woodwork for Bayer Leverkusen, though many regard that Petr Cech would start as first choice atleast at the start of the season. Though pre-season will make things clear regarding who would be the first choice candidate with gloves next campaign.

Arsenal are to rejuvenate their defensive vows next season and looks like they will put up a commendable performance defensively next season.

Bernd Leno will be a cheaper option into Arsenal’s defence with expensive backline. The goal-scoring performances of Nacho Monreal and Shkodran Mustafi will see them priced at £6million, right up there with Laurent Koscielny and Hector Bellerin.

Leno is expected to be priced at £5million, and would be a cheaper deal right into Arsenal’s defence.

Arsenal open their Premier League campaign with fixtures against Manchester City and Chelsea, but things get far easier for Unai Emery as they face the likes of Cardiff City, Newcastle United, Fulham and Crystal Palace until Game week 10 on the road. West Ham, Everton, Watford and Leicester City will be welcomed to Emirates during the same period.

Leno will be an investment with expected high returns and a tactical buy.

And something that everybody knows, Bernd Leno and his record with spot kicks. He has saved nine of the 39 penalties he has faced in the Bundesliga: no active player in the German top-flight has stopped more in that time. Petr Cech has only managed to save three spot-kicks since Leno made his debut, and his penalty save against Watford last season was his first in Arsenal colors.

Don’t forget – Goalkeepers earn five points for every penalty save and also pick up 15 points in the Bonus Points System(BPS).

If Leno could establish himself as Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeper, he would certainly attract many FPL escorts.
