Martin Keown: Time to bring back Arsene Wenger as Chairman!

Arsene-Wenger-Emirates-Farewell

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown admits a move to bring in iconic Arsene Wenger will be doubtful, but the Frenchman will be the “perfect” choice to succeed Sir Chips Keswick as Arsenal chairman.

Arsenal find themselves in a need of new figurehead after Sir Chips stepped down after serving the club as Chairman for fifteen years. And it remains to be seen who Arsenal board, which is currently led by Stan Kroenke, will turn to in need of inspiration at the top of the tree.

And Keown believes the North-Londoners should consider bringing in his former gaffer Arsene, who served the club for twenty-two years as a manager before ending his time at N5 in 2018.

His strong ties at the club will be a logical recruitment as the Frenchman can offer valuable  guidance to Mikel Arteta & all men calling the shots.

Keown spoke with talkSPORT about his opinion to replace Sir Chips: “Sir Chips is somebody who had been there for 15 years, took over from Peter Hill-Wood, so I think the club have been respectful with the work he’s done there.

“It would be something special to see Arsene Wenger come onto the board.

“I don’t think so somehow, I think he’s said recently he doesn’t want to do that, never saw himself as someone who would sit on the board but they could do a lot worse.

“You know that I feel that would be almost the perfect answer for Kroenke, the young Josh Kroenke, he needs that older person perhaps around, someone with the experience.

“Other people would think that it would be intimidating for [Mikel] Arteta – I don’t think so.

“If you’re a successful-type personality, you don’t really mind who else is in the building. You embrace that knowledge that could come in through the door.

“So I would applaud that if Arsenal Football Club were to bring Arsene Wenger onto the board.”

Although Keown believes Arsenal should trust their long time servant – but the seventy-year-old who works at FIFA as of now ruled out a return to The Emirates in any capacity last month.

Arsene told to beIN Sports: “Would I return to the Emirates Stadium? I always said to myself that I would be leaving Arsenal completely. That’s the decision I made.”
