Robert Pires gives his verdict on Ousmane Dembele

Barcelona completed a sensational move for Ousmane Dembele in the summer of 2017 for €105 million plus a reported €40 million add-ons. But his antics at Camp Nou has always linked him with a move away from Catalonia, with the latest rumors in the papers claiming Barcelona looking to off-load the Frenchman in bid to resign Neymar Jr.

Arsenal have been in consistent links with Ousmane Dembele but Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes that Barcelona are better off with Dembele rather than Neymar.

Neymar departed Barcelona in a highly controversial move to Paris Saint-Germain for a world record fee of £200 million, and they spent about half of that to land Dembele as his replacement.

But injuries have kept former Dortmund winger  limiting to only limiting him to just 31 appearances in all. Ousmane has already scored nine goals in twenty appearances this season, including that brilliant opener against Tottenham in the Champions League this Tuesday which has got everyone talking and Pires believes Ernesto Valverde’s men are better off working with Dembele.

“I love him [Dembele] very much,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

“We always talk about [Lionel] Messi, but this guy is very good.

“He’s young but what he does we all did as kids. What you must do is self-impose discipline in your life, but he is young and with his quality and talent, he can help Barca to win the Champions League and also the league, as we have seen against Tottenham and Espanyol with great goals.

“If I had to choose, I would not change Dembele for Neymar.

“Ousmane is 21, plays with the left and the right [foot] with a lot of quality with the ball.

“He has a lot of potential, more than what we’ve seen so far.”
