HAVERTZ’s Resurgence: A £60 Million Steal or Still a Questionable Investment?

Kai-Havertz-Arsenal-transfer

The spotlight on Kai Havertz’s transition from Granit Xhaka in the team this summer has yielded unexpected results. Despite being just three league goals shy of Xhaka’s tally, Havertz has demonstrated prowess not only in scoring but also in various off-ball aspects. While the team may have sacrificed some defensive stability, the trade-off has been a substantial increase in attacking threat. Mikel Arteta’s pursuit of Havertz in the summer was met with substantial criticism from both Arsenal fans and rivals alike. Despite his heroic contributions in the Champions League, where he netted the crucial final goal, his stint at Chelsea was widely considered a disappointment. Nevertheless, Arteta recognized Havertz’s undeniable qualities, making the German an integral part of the squad.

Havertz’s acquisition, often viewed as a risky move, can be seen as an enhancement over Xhaka, albeit with a different playing style. Although he may be a lower-volume player in terms of passes and touches compared to Xhaka, Havertz compensates with increased danger in the attacking third. His mobility and physicality make him a more potent force, evident in his ability to outpace opponents, as seen in the goal against Brighton.

Arteta, commenting on Havertz’s recent goal-scoring form, expressed optimism about the player’s growing confidence and sense of security on the field. With four goals in seven games, Havertz’s overall performance, intelligence, aggression, and defensive contributions have earned praise from the Arsenal manager.

Despite facing criticism since his move, Havertz boasts one of the game’s finest aerial abilities. His spatial awareness, combined with his reach and capacity to position himself in dangerous areas, sets him apart. Notably, Havertz is just two goal contributions away from matching his output in 30 league starts last season. Should he sustain his current form, there is potential for him to have a highly successful debut season with the Gunners.
