Arsenal played Atletico Madrid yesterday and there were many positives to take for Unai Emery’s men. One of them is certainly Matteo Guendouzi.

Arsenal signed highly rated French midfielder for a reported £7 million this summer. At nineteen, he is one for the future though inheritance of Xhaka’s Number 29 signifies ‘He is in Unai Emery’s plan for some first team outings.

Matteo is expected to be an integral part of youth setup complemented with significant amount of first team outings in Europea League, FA Cup and League Cup.

Guendouzi impressed me with his control on the ball, and I expect he surprised many with his energy as well as confidence. Despite being nineteen and just being integrated into a big club like Arsenal, he has shown great confidence on the pitch – not afraid to push forward though concentrated about his defensive duties.

Yes, there were moments where he got away with some raw defensive errors which could be severely punished in the Premier League. But, as we know about Unai Emery – he will make him show the replays of his mistakes and ensure he gets things as soon as possible.

Matteo is still nineteen and still has to develop many attributes before fighting for starting spot. Though, you could see many positives from his display against Atletico Madrid – he has got Arsenal fans excited.
