According to the latest reports, AS Roma’s sporting director Monchi is set to leave the Italian club and take up the job as sporting director for Arsenal.

The Gunners have been looking for a new sporting director who can handle the shrewd business in football ever since the departure of Sven Mislintat. The top two names on the replacement list are Ajax chief Marc Overmars and AS Roma’s director Monchi and the latter seems to be the forerunner.

Marca reports that the current Roma chief will join the North London side after his contract with the Serie A outfit expires in June 2019. Monchi has worked with Emery before during the duo’s time at Sevilla when the La Liga club won three Europa League titles in a row.

Monchi was the key man who constructed the squad to win those titles and the 50-year-old will be given full power at Arsenal to bring in the players that will benefit the squad. Monchi also has a knack of bringing in some quality youngsters to develop through the ranks, something that went under the radar at Arsenal when Mislintat was in monitoring the situation.

The 50-year-old Monchi brought in some of the best players in Europe to the Italian capital this season in the form of Justin Kluivert and Nicolo Zaniolo. He added some strength in experience as well as Steven N’zonzi and Javier Pastore also joined Roma in the summer, both these midfielders were linked to Arsenal once upon a time.

The Gunners will be hoping that Monchi can replicate such an economic and beneficial formula when he arrives at the Emirates as the transfer board at Arsenal needs some stability.

Arsenal will now have to pay off any compensation fee for Monchi as his contract expires in the summer and Emery would surely love to work with Monchi once again as the pair were successful in the past.
