Arsenal and cash-strapped Derby agree to postpone Krystian Bielik’s £1.4m payment

Derby County, who fell into administration owing to financial difficulties, has been handed an additional year by Arsenal to pay the next instalment on their acquisition of midfielder Krystian Bielik.

Polish midfielder Bielik joined the Rams back in August 2019 for a deal worth £10 Million on a five-year contract. Both the clubs had come to an agreement that Derby will pay the sum of £10 Million in instalments within a span of few years.

However, Derby County legally fell into administration on September 22, 2021, and were docked 12 points, dropping them to the bottom of the Championship. The Championship team was already overdue on payments, and they were scheduled to pay the Gunners another seven-figure sum this month.

Arsenal, on the other hand, has demonstrated empathy for the Rams’ financial predicament by agreeing to postpone payments for a year.

Carl Jackson, a spokesperson from Derby County’s administrators confirmed that “We’ve had some very positive discussions with Arsenal and they’ve allowed us to defer those payments until a later date.

“That has freed up some cash for us and that’s been agreed in writing.”

“It will certainly help our cash-flow over the course of the next two to three months and also sorts out any threatened embargo from the EFL at the same time.”

Arsenal fans have been impressed by this classy gesture of the Gunners towards Derby County.
