Gunners desperate to sign Barcelona centre-back following Europa League loss

After being humiliated in the Europa League final 4-1 to Chelsea last night, Arsenal boss Unai Emery is keen to make a move for Barcelona center-back Samuel Umtiti in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The North London outfit reached the final of the Europa League under Emery’s first season in charge managing the English side. However, a 4-1 thrashing awaited the Gunners in Baku as the Blues Maurizio Sarri won his first major trophy in his career with Chelsea.

Throughout this season, Arsenal was showing signs of defensive weakness and it was quite apparent that there are still a few players from the previous regime that need to be replaced. Most of the Gunners faithful believe that this current batch of defenders isn’t good enough to win trophies and the club needs to spend some money in the summer to strengthen their back line.

Emey has a few transfer options but one man at the top of the Spaniard’s wish list is Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti. The World Cup-winning Frenchman suffered an injury-hit campaign and looks like he could be on his way out of the Camp Nou.

Arsenal is now reportedly preparing a move for the central defender and Italian journalist Nicolo Shira has posted a message on social media which could ignite the move. The Italian revealed that the 4-1 loss to local rivals Chelsea in the Europa League final could be the reason why Arsenal decides to make a move for the 25-year-old Umtiti.

On his Twitter account, Shira tweeted, “After Europa League final there will be a new contact between Arsenal and Barcelona about Samuel Umtiti, who is Emery’s first choice for defense.”
