Arsenal monitoring Zenit’s Sardar Azmoun as replacement for Alexandre Lacazette?

Sardar-Azmoun-Arsenal

Premier League giants Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Zenit St Petersburg’s Sardar Azmoun as a potential replacement for Alexandre Lacazette. However, the Gunner will face competition from Serie A outfit AC Milan and LaLiga’s Sevilla for the signature of the Iranian.

Mikel Arteta’s side are currently in search of a centre-forward and Azmoun is reportedly on top of their transfer wishlist. Azmoun scored 19 goals in 29 appearances for the Russian club last season, helping Zenit clinch the league title.

This season, Azmoun has started the season strongly with six goals and an assist in 12 appearances so far. His contract with the Russian club expires in the summer of 2022 and he could be available for free when the season ends.

Sardar Azmoun has spent his entire senior club footballing career in Russia, having joined Rubin Kazan from Sepahan in January 2013. Since then, the player has come leaps and bounds, although he pendulated a fair bit between Rubin Kazan and FC Rostov before making a move to Zenit St Petersburg in 2019.

Azmoun’s impressive form has alerted clubs from across the European continent, including Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. According to reports, Tottenham were eying Azmoun as a potential replacement for Harry Kane if the English forward made the move to Manchester City.

Sardar publicly declared he had offers from clubs in England, France, Germany, and Italy in the summer transfer window. The player himself admitted that he wanted a move away from the club but insisted that Zenit blocked his exit. Now, Arsenal are now keen to land the 26-year-old Azmoun at the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2022.

The Gunners view Sardar Azmoun as a possible replacement for Lacazette, who has just over six months left on his current deal with the North London side. Lacazette has struggled for regular football this season and it appears that he will not be signing a contract extension with the club. Arsenal will be hoping to offload the Frenchman in January as they wouldn’t want to lose him for free.

LaLiga giants Atletico Madrid are reportedly keen on signing Lacazette. The Rojiblancos will be keen to bolster their attacking options with Luis Suarez entering the twilight years of his career.
