Does Arsenal really require a new striker? Well, if you don’t think so, Unai Emery does. The Spanish manager is looking to replace English striker Danny Welbeck with Belgian goalscoring forward Leandro Trossard.
It was a misfortunate incident that took place back in November last year when Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck suffered a horrific ankle injury in a Europa League clash against Sporting Lisbon. Many reports claimed that the center-forward may have played his last game for the club as his current contract expires in the summer. Welbeck is still recovering from his long term injury after surgery but it looks like the 28-year-old is arguably set to leave the Emirates when he returns back to fitness.
There is no doubt that Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang are two of the most dangerous attackers in the Premier League but Unai Emery still wants to bolster his attacking unit for next season as Arsenal want to compete for major honors. In order to replace Danny Welbeck, Emery is set to head into the summer transfer market to sign Belgian superstar Leandro Trossard.
Trossard has caught the eye of many top clubs across the European continent as he has been scoring goals for fun in the Belgian Pro League as well as the Europa League. The Genk attacker has netted 17 goals already this season in all competitions and has four assists to his name as well.
According to the latest reports, Emery wants to seal the deal for Trossard as quickly as possible and Arsenal are preparing a £22 million swoop for the 24-year-old who is set to be Welbeck’s potential replacement. Bundesliga table-toppers Borussia Dortmund is also linked with Trossard and Arsenal will have some transfer competition on their shoulders in a race to sign the prolific goalscoring Belgian.
Trossard could also push French striker Lacazette for a starting berth if he keeps on banging in the goals if he arrives at North London but the real question is do Arsenal really need to bring in another striker to the Emirates or trust enough in young Eddie Nketiah?
I reckon Nketiah will be sent out on loan next season, if a new face arrives at The Emirates upfront.
