What the ones in limelight couldn’t do, the lesser limelight ones did. What the male Gunners faltered in, the female squad succeeded upon.

While we were busy watching the 10 goal thriller with Liverpool, Arsenal Women quietly yet convincingly qualified for the quater-finals of Women Champions League.

The Gunners beat Slavia Prague 8-0 to announce their thumping entry into the top 8 having already beat the same opposition 5-2 in the reverse fixture. Having qualified for the quarters, Arsenal will now be drawn on November for the March fixtures.

The Gunners emphatically capitalised at the Meadow Park and continued their dominance of 5-2 win. From the start the squad was searching for a goal which they got via their Dutch star Danielle Van de Donk in the 21st minute who later went on to score the hat-trick.

The skipper Kim Little doubled the lead of Gunners after handsomely converting a goal from the spot. Since then it was only Prague’s goal keeper and Arsenal’s strikers handling the game. And in the first half itself the hosts doubled their lead with a screamer from Jill Roord followed by a goal from Miedema.

It was not over then. The Gunners continued their dominance and kept of embarrassing the visitors with incessantly moving forward. The second half experienced two goals a piece from Gunners prime forwards Van De Donk and Miedema who both finished with a treble.
