Dutch side confirm signing of Arsenal defender

FC Twente has confirmed the arrival of Spanish defender Julio Pleguezuelo from Premier League club Arsenal on a two-year deal.

Pleguezuelo became the first player to leave Arsenal this summer with Unai Emery preparing a few more departures for the betterment of the club. The 22-year-old spent six years at the Emirates Stadium but was loaned out for the past two seasons after joining the senior Arsenal squad.

The central defender spent his youth career at four different clubs in Spain including Atletico Baleares, Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona before moving to Arsenal in 2013. Pleguezuelo was finally handed his senior team debut in the League Cup last season but will not wear an Arsenal jersey again after making a permanent move to FC Twente.

The Dutch side was relegated from the Eredivisie last season but immediately returned to the top flight after winning the Eerste Divisie this season.

The Spanish star defender spoke to the official FC Twente website and said that he is looking forward to reuniting with his teammates at the De Grolsch Veste Stadium, “It feels good to be here now, in this beautiful stadium with this beautiful club. The talks with FC Twente have gone fairly quickly lately and I look forward to playing here soon. I know Aitor and Javier Espinosa from my time in Barcelona and it will be nice to play with them later.”
