Frimpong has a point, Arsenal still need defenders

Koulibaly

Unai Emery did make getting defenders his summer priority, and that was Arsenal’s majority business as they secured services of the likes of David Luiz, Kieran Tierney and William Saliba – although the latter was loaned out to Saint Eienne as he undergoes further development.

But Arsenal have conceded ten goals in their opening six league games this campaign and Emery’s concern at the back remain yet to be resolved.

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has called the Gunners to sign highly rated (and probably one of the best defenders in the world) Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Frimpong has featured for about sixteen times for the men in Reds and Whites having risen through the academy, and he believes despite getting in some reinforcements in the summer the defence is weaker than last season.

“David Luiz has been making mistakes and in my opinion, there’s little difference between Luiz and Mustafi; I would rather see Calum Chambers selected.”, said Emmanuel while speaking with MetaRatings

“They need to be signing better defenders, like Koulibaly, who can make a big impact on Arsenal’s team.”

Frimpong also hinted that getting in a defender in the winter will make the  difference between them claiming a top-four finish.

“Yes. They need a Koulibaly! They need to improve the defence to challenge.”

Koulibaly has a release clause of £133 million but getting him would be a little tricky. And his match winning antics against  Champions League game with Liverpool just showed why he is valued that high. He kept the defending champs at bay with fine blocks and headers, highlighting his robust style of play.
