Arsenal’s acquisition of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City last summer has proved to be a key factor in their push for the Premier League title this season. The duo’s experience and technical quality have added a new dimension to Mikel Arteta’s side, with Zinchenko’s ability to push forward into midfield and Jesus’ versatility across the front three making the Gunners a formidable team.
Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Edu Gaspar, may look to repeat last summer’s success as the club is reportedly among a group of clubs interested in signing Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo. The full-back has impressed for Manchester City, but was allowed to leave on loan to Bayern Munich in January. Cancelo could add the technical quality that Arteta is seeking, as well as additional quality on both the left and right sides of defence.
However, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that it is unlikely that Manchester City would sell a player to Arsenal again, stating that, “Pep and Manchester City will never sell a player to Arsenal ever again. The reason why Oleksandr Zinchenko was sold to Arsenal is because of Pep’s mate – and he didn’t feel Arsenal were a threat.”
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will pursue a move for Cancelo and if Manchester City would be willing to sell to a direct competitor.
