Lucas Torreira has indicated his urge to return back to Italy multiple times since he moved to England as he swapped his life in Serie A with Sampdoria to Premier League with Arsenal in 2018.
The Gunners had a deal in place prior to his World Cup Finals campaign with Uruguay in Russia & that gave supporters a look of Torreira’s potential.
Lucas has found his time in England particularly tough, trying to fit into life in North London as he tries to fit in at Arsenal – but there have been flashes of a player he could become and all that he has to offer.
Thirty-three appearances across all competitions in 2019-20, before injury struck Torreira down and arrival of Arteta offers clean slate to everybody. Which said to have convinced the 24-year-old that he was best served staying put for foreseeable future, though his representative rather claims retracing his steps to Italy would be welcomed.
Torreira agent Pablo Bentancur admits that he is keen on heading back to Serie A, speaking with TuttoMercatoWeb: “Lucas had been in a bit of a bad mood over some technical differences, then he recovered. And the injury arrived, fortunately less serious than expected. Today he is completely recovered, I believe he will be a market man (meaning he will be high demand when the transfer window opens).”
Pablo further added when pressed whether a potential deal could be done in the upcoming window: “I will have to speak to Arsenal. The player would love to return to Italy, but it must be acknowledged that Arsenal treated him very well and behaved great.”
