After four hellish years at Arsenal, Mathieu Debuchy was finally allowed to leave as he joined French side Saint Etienne.
Debuchy joined Arsenal from Newcastle United for a reported £12 million in 2014 and was expected to don Arsenal’s jersey as a full back for decent period of time.
The French international only made 29 appearances for the Gunners in his four year stay at the Emirates, injury problems and preferential problems played an important part in restricting his play time.
But Mathieu Debuchy’s fortune has flipped in no time with Saint Etienne.
The 32-year-old has scored two vital goals playing as a full back for his new franchise in just five weeks and has already become a hero at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
Debuchy has even been nominated for ‘Ligue 1 Player Of the Month’ contending with PSG’s Neymar and other three players.

Soon, the list of final three nominee’s for Ligue 1’s Player of the month (February) was revealed with Mathieu Debuchy, Neymar and Montpelier’s goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte.

With his time at Arsenal, he even fall out of favour for representing his country but with only months to World Cup in Russia – he is back in contention and may also travel to Russia with France.
Mathieu Debuchy left Arsenal following a run of good performances in the Europa League. Though with Hector Bellerin as the first choice right-back, he wouldn’t have received any first team football at the highest level.
It will be interesting to see How he performs in the coming time, though he has already proved his worth in no time. Arsene Wenger will have questions to answer if Debuchy continues his superb run of performances.
