OFFICIAL: Denis Suarez is a Gooner

Arsenal have completed the singing of Denis Suarez from Barcelona on an initial loan deal.

Denis Suarez was one of Unai Emery’s prime targets this January, and with speculations since like forever – He is announced and is a Gunner.

Suarez has joined Arsenal on loan until the end of the season with the North-London based club having an option to make the move permanent for £18m in the summer or anytime during his loan spell.

Denis has also penned a new contract at Camp Nou in order to protect his market value should the Gunners opts against signing him in the Summer. His extended deal doesn’t run out until 30 June 2021.

Barcelona also confirmed that Arsenal will pay Suarez’s salary during his spell at the Emirates.

Denis Suarez will link up with Unai Emery once again, who he worked with during a loan spell at Sevilla (2014-15 season).

The 25-year-old, made 71 appearances for Barcelona in three seasons, won five trophies at the Nou Camp – La Liga, two Copas del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.

“FC Barcelona and Denis Suárez have reached an agreement for the extension of the player’s contract with the club, which ended on 30 June 2020, until 30 June 2021,” the Spanish club said in a short statement on Wednesday afternoon.

“FC Barcelona have also agreed a loan deal for Suárez with Arsenal for the remainder of the 2018/19 season. The Premier League club will pay the player’s salary during this time and the agreement includes an option to buy.” 

Arsenal confirmed the next day that Denis Suarez has signed for them, here is the statement they issued on their website:

Spain international Denis Suarez is joining us from Barcelona on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder is reunited with our head coach Unai Emery. He spent the 2014/15 season on loan with Sevilla, where he was part of the squad which won the 2015 Europa League.

Unai said: “We are very happy that Denis Suarez is joining us. He is a player we know well and I have worked with him at Sevilla. He brings us quality and options in many different attacking positions, so he’ll be able to help the team.”
