Aaron Ramsdale is reportedly close to signing a new long-term contract with Arsenal. Although the 24-year-old goalkeeper still has two years remaining on his current contract, the club is eager to reward him for his standout performances that have contributed to Arsenal’s unexpected Premier League title push this season.

Ramsdale has started in all 35 league games this season and has registered 13 clean sheets, which is only behind Manchester United’s David de Gea with 15. He played an integral role in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle United last Sunday, which has brought them within one point of league leaders Manchester City, albeit having played one game more.

It is expected that a formal announcement will be made soon about the goalkeeper’s new contract, which will mark a significant improvement from his current agreement of £60,000-a-week ($75,735). The rise of Ramsdale to prominence is a dramatic shift from the negative reception he received when he signed with Arsenal from Sheffield United in the summer of 2021.

Despite facing backlash from some supporters, Ramsdale quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, overtaking Bernd Leno in the pecking order. His energy, enthusiasm and quality helped him win over the Arsenal fans, aided by his appearance in the Amazon: All or Nothing documentary on Arsenal released last year, which showcased his close relationship with his father, Nick.

In addition to his success with Arsenal, Ramsdale has also become an England international, earning three caps to date. Arsenal is keen on tying down the core of their squad, with winger Bukayo Saka also reportedly close to agreeing on a new contract. The club has already secured Gabriel Martinelli to a new contract and is currently in advanced talks with center-back William Saliba over fresh terms.

Arsenal fans will be eagerly awaiting confirmation of Ramsdale’s new deal as they hope to keep hold of the young goalkeeper for the long-term, given his impressive performances this season. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side will continue their push for the title in the remaining three games of the season.
