Should Arsenal have a go at Thiago Silva ?

Thiago Silva enters his final months at Parc Des Princes and Arsenal is one amongst the five clubs reportedly running after him.

No.Definitely not. Not another defender. That’s probably the mind voice we have whenever Arsenal go after any defender. Arsenal’s defense gets poorer season by season and the efforts made by the management don’t seem to provide any kind of salvation. David Luiz, one of the most recent signings hasn’t displayed himself as a top Gunner leaving only unfaith on the board’s absurd transfer decisions. Things being that way, reports claim that Arsenal has joined races with Everton, Newcastle, Wolves, and West ham targeting Brazilian defender Thiago Silva.

The defender’s tenure as a Les Parisiens ends this summer and it is highly unlikely that his contract will be extended credits to the information from PSG sporting director Leonardo. The Brazilian joined the French club from AC Milan in 2012 adding one Seria A and 7 Ligue 1 titles to his trophy cabinet. Silva, holding the arm bad of his international side has led his team to win a Copa America title in 18/19. With over 500 appearances for club and country, experiences aren’t famine for Silva. However, the only major factor diluting the club’s interest in him is his age. Silva is 35-years old and may have already reached his carrier finale. He already crossed his prime years and signing him might only end up being just another case of Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Well, he is one of the most prolific defenders and a manful leader. But, one might consider the fact that he has been playing in the French league for the past 8 years and whomsoever knows the quality and the competition in that league. Premier League games are invariably played at high tilt and it requires enormous team ability to combat the competition. Silva may take months to adapt to the surroundings and might take years to deliver the expected quality.

Arsenal is concentrating to strengthen the defense next season and, Silva becoming a free agent became a double-decker as they aim to buy an experienced defender as well as spending less. Another luring point might be Silva reuniting with his Brazilian counterpart David Luiz. Not to forget, David Luiz’s contract is up in the summer, a situation which the management expects might wither.

David-Luiz

David Luiz has conceded two penalties whereas he conceded three in his whole Chelsea career

Leaving all these, the first and foremost reason Arsenal must double think before signing him is his wages. Silva is reportedly earning $15m at PSG. His astronomical wage might overshadow his transfer fee and we shall not afford such a lavish player who might only prosper for about two seasons.

We already possess 7 center-backs in the squad including both on and off a loan and we might witness the debut of a number of fresh and young signings next season. William Saliba, Axel Disasi are all expected to step into the Emirates Stadium next season and Thiago Silva might even be the formidable guy to guide these lads. Signing him is not totally a bad option if and only if Arsenal can negotiate terms with Silva for an affordable wage.
