Ridle Baku of VfL Wolfsburg has reportedly caught Arsenal’s eye after a strong season with the German club. SportBILD reports that the North Londoners are one of the teams keeping Baku ‘under observation’ owing to his impressive displays.
According to the article, Baku has a contract with Wolfsburg until 2025, although it is unclear if he will remain with the club until then with multiple speculatives about a probable move away from Wolfsburg come summer. After netting five past the keeper and laying off one in 26 Bundesliga games for his team this season, he has caught the attention of clubs like Arsenal and Villarreal.
Despite spending most of the season on the right side of defense, his statistics this year show that he is a “offensive and dynamic winger” and a goal threat. Since his transfer from Mainz in 2020, he has played in 92 of a possible 92 games, starting in 82 of them. Given Arsenal’s struggles to back-up Ben White at right back this season, this is likely to be to their liking.
While Baku’s current market value is roughly €13 million, he is “freely negotiable” due to the lack of a buyout in his contract. Therefore, if Arsenal or any other suitors like Chelsea, Villarreal and RB Leipzig decide to make a move for Baku come summer, he might wind up costing much more than that.
