Freddie Ljungberg names Reiss Nelson as “future” of the club

Reiss Nelson was expected to be a consistent figure for Arsenal this term after his stint for Hoffenhiem in the Bundesliga last year. Though, Bukayo Saka has been given a higher preference than Reiss lately – not only by Unai Emery but also by Freddie Ljungberg.

After taking over the managerial regins from Unai Emery last week, Freddie has been part of number of interviews with the media and he tagged Reiss Nelson as the future of Arsenal Football Club.

Speaking before Arsenal’s 2-2 draw Ljungberg highlighted Reiss’ progress after the Englishman was left out of the MatchDay squad.

He said: “As the manager, I need to pick the team I believe in. I’ve used a bit of experience, and I think they need to take the lead in a hard time like we’re in at the moment.

“There are difficult decisions to be made, for example I left Reiss Nelson back home in London, which for me is really hard because he’s the future of this club in my opinion, a great talent, but I had to leave him out. Those are the decisions you have to do as a manager, and it’s not always easy. I believe in how people treat me, I give everybody a possibility. I felt that was the best balance of our team.”

Nelson has been rather left fighting for his place in the subs forget the eleven, with Unai Emery preferring Bukayo Saka ahead of Reiss and the same was done by the Swede in his debut at Carrow Road. Though, Freddie name-checking Reiss speaks volumes about his abilities.

With only six appearances this campaign, Nelson has to earn his place but Freddie’s praise comes a much-needed hope for him. And commeth the time, we would see him in regular business for us soon.
