Ian Wright – Ozil should remain at Arsenal

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has advised Spanish boss Unai Emery to keep hold of key playmaker Mesut Ozil in the summer transfer window following controversy over the past few months.

Ozil has clearly not been the most favored player for Emery due to his work rate and inability to perform at the big stage but that does not deny the fact that he has the potential and class to play for a big club.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium with Serie A duo of Inter Milan and Juventus interested in Ozil. However, ex-Arsenal forward Ian Wright believes that the World Cup winner should be at Arsenal despite the criticism that he has come under from the fans as well as the manager.

While speaking to the Mirror, the 55-year-old Englishman said that he would not sell Ozil because he is the kind of player that any team would want, “I’m not for selling someone like Mesut Ozil because Ozil is the kind of player you want in your team. People can say whatever they want – leveling accusations that he doesn’t do it in this game or that game. The fact is that he is good enough to be doing it in those games.

The Arsenal talisman reportedly earns a staggering £350,000 a week but he missed 14 Premier League games, usually being dropped by the manager.

Wright went on to add the reason as to why Ozil should be at the club because of the chances that he creates on a regular basis but Arsenal should get the best out of his ability, “The number of chances that Ozil is making on a regular basis, he’s top in all five European leagues. Now whether that’s Arsenal not getting the best out of him or people not taking the chances, he’s still creating them. I have no problem with Ozil earning what he is earning because at the end of the day you need players around him that can bring the best out of him as well.”
