Arsenal are linked with another Austrian midfielder after Hannes Wolf in Hoffenhiem’s Floriann Grillitsch and the Gunners are weighing up on a move for him, though as per reports by Bild – they do face some competition from arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Floriann Grillitsch has only been at Hoffenhiem since 2017 after joining from Werder Bremen, but has since adapted to Julian Nagelsmann’s expansive style of football at the club with ease and his impressive performances has landed interests from clubs around Europe.
Amid his links with North-London duo, Floriann Grillitsch’s agent traveled to England last week. There is no confirmed information, though Bild speculate that was to make ‘first contacts’ with the club.
Bohm spoke to the media recently and said: “The fact that Flo is in the focus of top clubs with his strong performances, is no big secret. But he feels comfortable in Hoffenheim and still has goals with the TSG. Everything else will be seen.”
Grillitsch is contracted with Hoffenheim until 2021, though Bild claims he’z got a release clause (though they haven’t mentioned any specific number), and it would be difficult for them to keep him at Rhein-Neckar-Arena if his release clause is matched.
Grillitsch’s style of play in his own words:
“I would describe myself as a midfielder, who has his strong points in attack. I can read the game well and I can anticipate situations ahead of time. Beside my good understanding of the game and tactical discipline I also have pace, the willingness to run and a good passing game on my side. I can keep hold of the ball rather well and if necessary I can head the ball well due to my height.”

Floriann Grillitsch is a defensive midfielder, and the question is ‘Whether Arsenal really do prioritise another DM’, they already got likes of Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny fighting for couple of spots in the squad and that’s excluding any academy prospects.
Perhaps, we could consider Grillitsch next summer, but the club have more immediate problems at the back and on the wings right now.
